Holiday Menus
First make a list of events you will be going to or having in the next two months from now through the new year celebrations. Yeesh, it was more then you thought wasn't it? Now separate the ones you are hosting from the others.
For holiday gatherings where you aren't expected to contribute to the meal, count your blessings :) that you don't have to make anything. (Although a small hostess gift from your stockpile is always thoughtful.)
For holiday gatherings where you are expected to contribute call up the host and make an offer. Do not say, "What can I bring?" Look at your pantry, think about what will be on sale in the weeks before the event, (baking supplies, turkey, cranberries, etc. are on sale in November, ham, soda, etc. in December) what you can afford, and what you like to make. Then, call your host and say, "We are looking forward to your party, would you like me to bring item A, item B, or item C. That way you are still giving your host options for what will fit best into her menu but you won't blow the bank since you are only offering to make something you know you can afford.
If you are hosting the gathering make your menu!!! We have an all day gathering at our house which encompasses two meals so I also make a cooking schedule for myself that tells me what time the ham, buns, etc. need to go into the oven. That way I'm not trying to do the math on all of that with 20 people running around the house. Once you have your menu made start watching for deals and stock up on what you need. As people who are coming offer to bring things you can add their items to your menu and possibly delete things you were going to make.
If you have a gathering to go to soon after you are hosting one, make extra. If you bake an extra pie while you are making your own you will be all set for the event you are going to. Even leftovers are great just put the left over salad, dip, or whatever into a fresh bowl and it will look like new. Do whatever you can to save yourself some work. Holidays can be exhausting for those of us who are making it wonderful for others :)

8 Yo-Plus yogurt 4 packs
2 Fiber One yogurt 4 packs
5 Yoplait Delight yogurt 4 packs
18 ct eggs
2 AAA batteries 4 pack
1 Franks Red Hot sauce
4 Pillsbury Crescent roll 4 packs
I paid $1.01 for all of this. My point is that it doesn't have to be a "major" sale week for it to be a worthwhile stop. You don't have to check out 8 times every time you go (and deal with the accompanying stress). I checked out twice and was in the store about 15 minutes. Fifty dollars worth of groceries for $1 was worth my 15 minutes and it is worth yours too.
The key to an easy and inexpensive trip is to plan, plan, plan. I know it is against some of your natures to do so, but it will save you a lot of time and money. Have the coupons you are going to use separated for easy access. Have your list written down with what you are going to buy and any fillers you might like to boost your total to $25. You do not have to buy the fillers. It is just good to have a list of them in case you need them. Group your items by transaction and write what is in each transaction on your list. This will really help when you are checking out. It is easy to get confused about what you wanted to buy together.
Most of all, don't forget to be proud of yourself. You are doing a great thing for your family. You are being a good steward of your money. You are doing a good job!

Another Cheap Casserole
3 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
Parmesan cheese
1 jar spaghetti sauce
8 oz tomato sauce
chopped onion (optional)
chopped green pepper (optional)
pepperoni
browned hamburger
shredded mozzarella
Cook the macaroni. The 3 cups is just a guideline for those of you who like directions. I've found 3 cups makes just the right amount for a 9 x 13 casserole. Sometimes I just use leftover spaghetti noodles or whatever I might have in my pantry. Grease the casserole dish. Layer half the macaroni in the pan. Sprinkle some Parmesan over the pasta. Layer the rest of the macaroni over that and sprinkle on some more Parmesan cheese. Layer the onions and green peppers next if you want them. Then sprinkle on some browned ground beef. Anywhere from 1/4 to 1 pound depending on how inexpensive you need to make it :) Layer some pepperoni slices over the top of the beef. Spread the jar of spaghetti sauce and the tomato sauce over the top. Make sure all noodles are covered or they get a little too crispy. Sprinkle some mozzarella cheese on top. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes. This casserole also freezes well so make two or three at a time and freeze the extras.

Sates By the Numbers
States by the Numbers is a real-data math adventure across the United States. Learn about your favorite state or states by delving into place values, rounding, estimation, fractions and percentages.
There are 50 workbooks in the series - one for each state. The data in each workbook is taken directly from the Census Bureau's 2008 Statistical Abstract of the United States. The Wyoming book is the only one that is free.
Each workbook includes basic instruction and 80 practice problems. Additionally, the "What's the big idea?" pages give learners the opportunity to reflect on the things they've learned. Throughout the workbook series, we have consistently sought to address the content and process standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
